IOWA FALLS

Population, 4,000. Situated on the Iowa river in Hardin county, 16 miles n. w. of Eldora, the judicial seat, 150 miles w. of Dubuque and 50 e. of Fort Dodge. Has the most picturesque and romantic surroundings possible to imagine. Bounded on the west by the lowa river and on the east by Rock Run, both coursing their way through deep rock-walled canyons, bordered by native forests, affording the finest boating and best picnic grounds in the state, this city has become a pleasure resort to which people flock to pass the hot weeks of summer, or spend a vacation from business. Located in the heart of a fertile farming region, it is the leading commercial center of this section, its merchants enjoying an enormous and constantly increasing trade. It has three railroads, the Illinois Central, the C., R. I. & P., and the C. & N. W. Since its settlement in 1855 it has enjoyed a steady and permanent growth. until it is now the metropolis of Hardin county. Two newspapers keep the people informed as to the happenings, both local and general, the Hardin County Citizen and the Iowa Falls Sentinel. The following denominations have church edifices and hold regular services Baptist, Catholic, Christian, Congregational, Friends, German Lutheran and Methodist Episcopal. The city maintains a a fine chautauqua every summer. The system of graded schools is one of the best in the state. Ellsworth College, with an efficient corps of teachers, has ample capacity for 500 students. There are 5 banks, a hospital, good hotels, gasoline engine and gate factories and many other important industries. An opera house of 800 capacity affords ample room for all amusements. The city is lighted by electricity and gas, has a fine system of water works, sewerage and a public heating plant. Tel., W. U. Exp., Am. S. I. Rutledge, postmaster.
